Low carbon steel granules are produced by used very well selected low carbon scrap with very little sulphur and phosphorus content. Turkey of this it is melt at 1600-1650ºC in induction furnaces and after being cooled in water after atomization they gain a beinitic composition and are obtained in the form of granules without cracks. No additional hear process is applied.

High carbon steel granules, on the other hand, because they are produced from all kinds of scraps, they have a hard, brittle martensitic composition and the heat processing applied after casting causes surface cracks.

Why Low Carbon ?
The impact absorption capacity of low carbon and high manganese steel granules is high; the impacts are distributed homogenously in all points of the granule. During sanding operations, the low carbon granules are scraped in thin layers like an onion for a period of around 80% of their lifetime due to abrasion and are separate into smaller pieces only due to material fatigue. Because it is separate into less and smaller parts the machine and wing abrasion is distinctly reduced.

High carbon steel granules separate into large angular pieces and break in a short time due to the cracked structure formed during their production. Due to this characteristic they also cause extra costs on the machine turbine equipment and filters as well.

In low carbon granules surface cracks such as those in the high carbon granules are not seen. Cracks reduce the life of a granule. Low carbon steel granule becomes hardened to up to 46- 49 HRC after the first couple of cycles inside the sanding machine due to its manganese content. Because of this it has a better cleaning effect as compared to the high carbon.

Due to all these characteristics as also shown by various test devices the Tosçelik Granule product, the low carbon steel granule has 20% longer lifetime as compared to the high carbon.
